Information on what is an AusLink National Project, the funding conditions and funding allocations for the states and territories can be found in this section.

National Projects targets projects that will deliver high national benefits. When completed, these projects will significantly improve the efficiency and safety of the AusLink Network. A total of $9.8 billion (from 2004-05 to 2008-09) has been allocated for National Projects on the AusLink National Network, including:

  • $8.2 billion allocated to the states and territories for road, rail and intermodal construction;
  • $1.5 billion for road maintenance; and
  • $140 million for national rail projects, research and the upgrading of bridges so they can bear heavy vehicles carrying higher mass limit loads.

More detail on maintenance can be seen at National Network Maintenance

Non-Network Projects (road)

Under AusLink, funds are being provided for projects committed to, but not yet completed, under the former Roads of National Importance program, even though they are not on the AusLink Network.
