National Network Maintenance

Adjust font size:

An annual $300 million in maintenance funding is apportioned between the states and territories using a formula. The formula combines each jurisdiction's proportion of the national total of lane length, total vehicle distance travelled and total heavy vehicle distance travelled to determine the amount of funding it will receive. As an interim measure the formula was applied to the former National Highway in 2004-05. The application of the formula to the AusLink National Network is being phased in from 2005-06 until 2008-09.

States and territories are able to apply these maintenance funding contributions to the AusLink National Network as they judge most appropriate. However, they are expected to maintain their network to agreed levels of service.
