Funding for Unincorporated Areas

Funding for Unincorporated Areas

Adjust font size:

From 1 July 2005, $30 million is available over four years for AusLink Roads to Recovery projects in unincorporated areas of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Although not unincorporated, a total of $636,000 of this amount will go to the Indian Ocean Territories of Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands.

The remaining funds for unincorporated areas are being distributed among New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and the Northern Territory based on road length.

The Northern Territory will receive $16 million over four years. In New South Wales, most of the area west of the Darling River is unincorporated, as is Lord Howe Island. Unincorporated areas in that State will receive $2.52 million from the AusLink Roads to Recovery Program. Victoria's unincorporated areas funding amounts to $64,000 for roads on French Island.

South Australia's allocation for unincorporated areas is $10.79 million. While these funds are provided to the Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure, the Outback Areas Community Development Trust is consulted in developing the program of works.

The $10.79 million over four years in South Australia is in addition to the $57 million ($13.5 million in 2007-08) being provided from 2007-08 to 2010-11 to address a disadvantage in that state's local road funding under the Financial Assistance Grants from the Australian Government.
