Over four years from 1 July 2005, funding of $1.23 billion is available to local government authorities, and State and Territory governments responsible for unincorporated areas, for local roads maintenance and upgrading.

The Supplementary AusLink Roads to Recovery program provided local government with additional funding of $307.5 million for upgrading local road infrastructure.
